Knowing What Letters Stand for With Motor Oil

There are a ton of myths surrounding motor oil that it can cause a lot of major - and avoidable! - mistakes. One of the common mistakes of motor oil come with trying to read the oil on the package. This comes with a misunderstanding of the letters on the oil package.

When reading the oil specification on the package, one of the letters people come across is the W. A lot of people assume that it just stands for weight. However, this is about the viscosity of the oil. Therefore, the W would stand for winter. This would let you know if the oil is better for the winter.

If the winter level number is lower, then that means the oil is going to be more vicious. One thing you want is oil that is useful for the season you are in when it comes to keeping the engine lubricated and clean.
